Research Factoring
This page is for open discussions on factoring the research domain. Please comments on any projects, systems, specifications, standards, or use cases that might be relevant to research factoring in the e-Framework.
In 2006, e-Framework obtained an e-Research Factoring Document from Prof Jane Hunter, University of Queensland, co-authored with Matthew Dovey, University of Oxford. This research paper provides a review of the common functionalities and supporting services within the Research domain.
Some discussions arising out of this document has been listed below:
- We have reviewed the current set of services in the e-Framework in order to identify where there are overlaps. (This review to come.)
- Meeting 12th December 2006
- Viji's Comparison with the e-Framework Service Genre's Registry items
e-Framework acknowledges the value of this document. There are several plans for the content and how to incorporate with the e-Framework.
- Using the Classification in the e-Framework. This could help with navigation for research infrastructure builders.
- Using the documented Service Descriptions as placeholders for research Service Genres.
- Identifying Service Genres of interest and Service Expressions of these.
- Adding Service Expressions to the e-Framework.
- Using the classification and descriptions as a map of the research space, we can attempt to identify systems which span the map. These will be good Service Usage Models to document.
- Using the map, identify interoperability pain and gain points that can be documented in the e-Framework.
