This SUM lets scholars work together in a collaborative, distributed environment, to build a biographical encyclopaedia. Preparing an authoritative entry about a person can take a long time and considerable research. Entries are worked on collaboratively by a number of people, with input from a wider audience in the form of annotations. They are then reviewed before being exposed to the wider public. Published entries are syndicated, allowing other repositories to harvest them. Similarly, metadata records about entries in other repositories can be harvested and made available for searching by users.
